Question about eating eggs and animal cruelty?

My husband and I are vegetarians. Lately I have been thinking about becoming vegan. Because of health benefits and what not really the only things we eat animal preoduct are milk cheese and eggs. I want to cut out the milk and cheese and go vegan on those two. However we raise our own chickens at home and they are happy chickens they get left over veggie scraps and eat a diet high in calcium. Is it cruel to eat their eggs. We have been eating eggs for a source of protien. Changing up the old beans and legumes routine. I just want some opinions thank you!
